In this area of what we call self – help, development, improvement etc. it is important for us to be aware. If we get caught in the hype of things, we will find that we are just reading, forcing to implement and we then forget to live.
On a personal level, I have always been interested in this area of knowing self and wanting to better myself because I was not ok with my thought processes, I wanted to be more focused and positive. I wanted to balance my emotions – I basically wanted to better myself. I wanted to be successful and be financially stable – it is still a work in progress
However, there are times when I actually needed to pause and ask myself – What am I doing? As an example – I see Youtube videos on people waking up early, being busy with their work etc. and then I think – there is something wrong with me. The reason is because – I rather not wake up at 5am because I have absolutely nothing much to do but I think I should because it is supposed to be good – well apparently so. I think if I can wake up at that time, I can walk, be more productive etc. but the fact is I like walking in the evenings and I really am not that busy.
I then had to recondition my thought process and remind myself that it is ok. It is ok if I don’t wake up at 5am, it is ok if I am really not as busy as I would sometime like – in some ways I was rather fortunate.
When we embark on the process of self-discovery, I feel it is a 2 tiered process –
1. To get to know yourself and
2. To examine if there are things about yourself that YOU want to change or improve.
We need to understand ourselves first before we embark to change or improve something. This is important because too much of change may strip us of our comfort level. It is therefore important to remember that it is ok to be just you.
Work on things you want to improve and then remember to live your life.
Take care everyone. Be kind to yourself and to others.
