More often than not we have a sense of expectation – be it from others (usually those who are close to us), from the universe or just from life. When one dwells in this space of ‘spirituality’, we are told it is important to not have expectations – there is even a passage in the Bible that says – ‘When you right hand gives let not your left hand know’. One would argue that this was more about not parading and showing off one’s act of giving. However from an energy perspective, I see that when we give from our right there needs to be a balance of receiving that flows to the left of us. (Right -outward flow, left -inward flow)
Hence, we will have an expectation to receive, what you give you will receive – that is the cycle and this is where expectation comes in.
It is ok to have expectations but we need to also be ok if that expectation is not met. You may have worked hard and were expecting either a raise or a good bonus. If that did not come, it is ok to feel devastated and yet at the same time it will be a great opportunity to evaluate your work.
It is also important to voice out one’s expectation be it to our family/friends, employers for we tend to assume that just because we do something, we think or expect the other to be aware and reciprocate – nah, it is not always going to be that way. We feel or have been taught to feel that if we expect something in return that our giving may not be sincere. There are times when this happens but for many of us we do tend to give sincerely and sometimes we do expect the same from the person we are giving to.
Do not feel awkward if you do have expectations and it is ok to voice it out.
Take care everyone and be kind to you and to others.
