Shorts – Listening

Listening is an art we all maybe need a little more of. Many of us do struggle with this art as most of us would like to respond rather than listen. Another challenge about listening is that it requires us to pay attention and be focused on what the other person is saying – this is especially so when the interaction is more strained and tensed.

We usually tend to react to a person’s emotions when in tense situations or an argument – we are reacting to the emotion of anger or a person shouting and rather than listen we are preparing our reaction and responses in that same emotional frequency.

We also need to remember that even if we do tend to listen to another, do not get pulled into a situation where the person is playing the victim or the saviour. In these situations is would be better to inform the person of what your thoughts are rather than just shut off.

We need to balance what we listen to and who we listen to as well – what we hear does affect us on a subconscious level.

Take care everyone and be kind to you and to others.
